Why Is Cybersecurity So Important?

It plays a vital role in safeguarding our sensitive data—personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), personal records, intellectual property, data, and government or industry information systems—from breaches and destruction. As the world becomes increasingly digital, cybercrime has emerged as one of the greatest threats facing businesses and governments globally.

According to recent reports, cybercriminals compromised 2.8 billion consumer data records in 2018 alone, costing U.S. organizations over $654 billion. Meanwhile, the 2019 Ninth Annual Cost of Cybercrime Study estimated the total risk value to reach $5.2 trillion globally within the next five years. The same report highlighted the growing cost of detecting attacks and emphasized the importance of leveraging automation, advanced analytics, and threat intelligence.

As artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies continue to evolve, it’s possible to envision a cybersecurity industry equipped with the tools needed to lead and protect our digital future. At TopTel, we are committed to contributing to this reality.
